My Honest Dyson Supersonic Review-Tested by an Expert

I have used many tools over my 20 years as a licensed Cosmetologist. In the next several posts, I will give an honest review of some of the most popular hair tools.

In this series, I will give my honest options on popular hairdryers, curling irons, and round brushes.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer

This dryer was the winner of Allure Best of Beauty Award 2023.

It is engineered to protect hair from extreme heat damage by using its intelligent heat control, measuring the airflow temperature over 40 times to prevent extreme heat damage.

This technology allows you to dry your hair faster and smoother than with other hair dryers.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer comes with five attachments, all of which have their own purpose.

Attachments:

Style concentrator: Styles the hair, one section at a time, with precise

controlled airflow.

Diffuser: Helps reduce frizz and defines curls and waves.

Flyaway attachment: Hides flyaways with one pass for a smooth, shiny finish.

Gentle air attachment: Diffuses the air, creating a more gentle airflow (excellent for fragile or fine hair).

Wide-tooth comb: Detangles the hair as it dries.

Features:

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has three speed settings and four heat settings, allowing for a customized drying experience for all hair and scalp types.

Sensitive scalp?

Not a problem! Simply adjust the heat setting to your liking and go!

There is also a cold shot button you can use to set your hair after styling.

Pro Tip: Set your style with a quick cold shot after styling. This will allow your style to last longer.

The dryer comes with a 9-foot heavy-duty cord, negative ions technology, which helps reduce static, and 1900 watts of power.

All Dyson Supersonic hair dryers have a washable filter, and the company suggests cleaning the filter regularly.

It is lightweight, weighing approximately 1.8 pounds.

Dyson claims that the Supersonic dryer is quieter than most dryers, but with 77 decibels, it is as noisy as others.

In my experience, the Dyson is relatively quiet compared to other dryers. It depends on the person and their preferences.

In the graphic, you can see how the 77-decibel Dyson compares to other noise we experience daily.

Likes about the Dyson Supersonic:

One of my favorite Dyson Supersonic hair dryer features is the magnetic attachments. Talk about quick and easy when you want to change attachments or remove them.

Another cool feature about this hair dryer is the ability to use this display stand.

The dryer and the attachments fit on the magnetic stand, giving a sleek and clean workspace—no more clutter on the countertop.

You can purchase it from Dyson or Amazon. I have one like this at my salon.

Dislikes about the Dyson Supersonic:

The Dyson does not have a long nozzle, which is the only thing that I don't like about this hair dryer.

I do a lot of blowouts where I use the hair dryer's nozzle to balance the section of hair while drying.

Since the Dyson has a short nozzle, round-brushing requires more effort on my part.

It's a tiny inconvenience, but I said I was giving my honest review.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has a 2-year warranty on parts and labor. When you buy from Dyson, they register your warranty automatically - you won't have to fill in any more forms.

The power cord is heavy and often gets tangled up in my stylist chair's footrest, but it's a first-world problem, right?

Honestly, two years is a bit short, given the price of this tool. Other brands have a much longer warranty policy, such as Elchim, an Italian brand of professional hair dryers.

I have had to make a warranty claim on my Dyson, and they made the process quick and painless.

They replaced my hair dryer rather than repairing it due to a "power failure."

Had I damaged it in any way, my claim may have been rejected. But mine wasn't damaged, and I had a brand new Dyson professional dryer in 2 weeks!

Final thoughts on the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

Now that I have been using this dryer for two years, I can honestly say I would recommend it to anyone.

Are there hair dryers that are as good as this one? Sure!

When I get the chance to try them out, I will return with another honest review.

Sure, it does come with a hefty price tag, but it's worth it!

Think about this: if you break down the cost per day, this investment will cost you less than $2 per day (if you keep the dryer for two years).

Dryer cost: $450

Two years: 730 days

Dryer cost per day: $1.62

You can also look into buying a refurbished dryer from Dyson, which will save you around $100 on the dryer.

I find that I don't have to work as hard to smooth out my client's hair. Especially when I use my Ibiza boar bristle round brush. This brush is the GOAT!!

Hairstylist using the Dyson Supersonic dryer

My wrists and shoulders don't hurt as much due to the lightweight design of the dryer.

If you are one of the people who have to shampoo and dry their hair every day, then invest in a professional hair dryer.

I mean, it makes your hair shiny!

The way I justify a large purchase is I ask myself, how often will I use this? I am going to use this tool often or every now and then.

If the answer is yes, I'm going to use the tool often, then I have zero problem investing in the tool or shoes or whatever.

Sure, this is a business expense for me, and I do in fact, write-off tools that I use for my business. But just like anyone else, I have to have the money to buy the tool in the first place.

I'm going to leave you with this one tip I have learned over being in the beauty industry for 20 years.

Investing in quality hair products, hair tools, or hair education will not only serve you in the moment but later on in the future as well.
